Whetherman is the moniker of 32 year-old independent folk singer-songwriter Nicholas Williams, who has released seven full-length albums of “Sunny, soulful folk music that is irresistible" (Indie Music Reviewer) since 2007, most recently his first live album: Whetherman Live at Blue Jay Listening Room released in June of 2016. A finalist for the 2015 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriter Showcase, Williams also received praise from BBC Radio of his latest release Seeds for Harvest as “Completely beautiful. An absolute delight to the ears.” His earnest and poetic lyrics accompany timeless, soulful vocals alongside a percussive acoustic guitar technique and rolling harmonica, creating a rustic Americana sound all his own.
Sonicbids, the world’s leading DIY resource for independent musicians, featured Williams for their article on “Success Stories- How to Make It as a DIY One-Man Band: Advice from Whetherman” as he’s been touring 180 shows a year in over 40 states across the US since 2012, as well as performing throughout the UK and Western Europe on his own. He is completely independent from management, agencies or contracts, taking a grassroots approach to spread the music he's created for almost a decade. He's opened for acclaimed acts such as The Wailers, The Wood Brothers, Howie Day, Kim Richey, Donavon Frankenreiter, Anders Osbourne and Town Mountain among many others, as well as performed at festivals throughout the US and the UK.
Living on the road for the better part of the last five years, his surroundings have secured songs of poetry, with a resonance of nature. The end product is a type of easy-listening that lifts the spirits and feeds the soul, akin to the likes of Van Morrison's early recordings.
A large part of the sound behind his most recent albums, is a six-member group that takes nothing away from the artfully established singer-songwriter presence, complimenting with an eclectic array of Americana elements. The cast includes: Rachel Murray (Vocals), JP Salvat (Percussion), Alex Hayward (Drums), Adam Mantovani (Upright Bass), Drew Matulich (Mandolin/Fiddle/Guitar) and Eric Brigmond (Keys).
During 2016, Williams will be touring throughout the US supporting his seventh release and first live album, as well as dates in the UK and Europe. Williams is slating his 8th full-length album in Summer of 2017. You can find Whetherman on iTunes and Bandcamp, as well as streaming on Pandora Radio and Spotify.
